Celebrating the Power of Student Voice

The Desert Sands Educational Foundation was proud to recognize six incredible student writers through our second annual DSEF High School Writing Competition! This year, we were excited to expand the competition to include students from both Shadow Hills High School and Amistad High School.
Students responded to the powerful prompt: “The Moment That Changed Everything” - sharing honest, vulnerable, and inspiring reflections that showcased the strength of their voices and the importance of storytelling.
At DSEF, we believe strong writing and communication skills are essential for success in school, career, and life, and we are honored to support opportunities that encourage students to express themselves and grow as writers.
Congratulations to our 2026 winners, each receiving a $300 academic scholarship:
Amistad High School
Serenity Hernandez – 11th Grade
Jolina Muñoz – 12th Grade
Shadow Hills High School
Julianna Martinez – 9th Grade
Aileen Esparza – 10th Grade
Khloe Zabalza – 11th Grade
Ulysses Medina Gonzalez – 12th Grade
We are so proud of these students and look forward to continuing to elevate student voice across Desert Sands Unified School District.
